Accessibility Statement.
This is the official accessibility statement for www.mdwebster.com. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to get in touch using the enquiry form located within the contact page.
Access keys
With access keys enabled, users can navigate through pages, without using the mouse, by simple keyboard shortcuts. Therefore people with limited mobility or those who have trouble controlling the mouse can still use the site with ease.
Windows users can navigate with the accesskey feature by typing ALT+Accesskey. On the Mac, you would use CTRL+Accesskey (not COMMAND+Accesskey, which can produce undesired effects). Internet Explorer users may also need to hit the “enter” key to activate a link.
The following access keys have been defined.
- Access key 1 – Directs you to About / Home page.
- Access key 2 to 7. – Directs you through the Navigation links.
- Access key 8. – Skips navigation and displays the content.
- Access key 0 – Accessibility Statement.
Standards compliance
This entire site has been approved up to level 3 standard under Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG3), in addition to satisfying Section 508 of the American Rehabilitation Act. However this is always a judgement call; many accessibility features can be measured, but many can not. Therefore all guidelines have been reviewed and it is believed that all pages are in compliance.
- A separate stylesheet has been created so that viewers who find the standard font hard to read can increase the pages font size by a simple click. This was achieved by JavaScript and Cookies and can be adjusted at will using the left-hand side link.
- This site validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. You can check the validity of this site by clicking the relevant link on the left-hand side.
- In addition to XHTML 1.0, mdwebster.com is powered by CSS 2.0 for styling, and also validates under w3c guidelines. Again this can be checked by clicking the relevant link.
- Accessibility issues on different browsers (Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox) and at different resolutions (800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024) has been tested for and has passed, meaning the site can be resized without losing readability.
- Printing of pages has been made much more efficient by eliminating unwanted styles and information. Therefore only useful content is printed, decreasing print time and ink consumption.
