Macromedia Director: Car Driving Simulator.

A screenshot of the Car Driving Simulator.

Design Brief:

This assignment was to create an interactive piece of multimedia using Macromedia Director. The animation had to fit into one of five categories; music, physics, history, space, and time. The application was to be delivered at a size of 600 x 350 and include some form of LINGO.

Rationale:

Physics was the chosen subject, and the aim was to create an entertaining, fun piece of interactive multimedia and is why the car driving simulator was designed.

The principle behind the car driving simulator is that the car is controlled by the arrow keys on the keyboard through LINGO. Pressing the up arrow key will move the car forward, however the speed stays constant up until the spacebar is pressed, this then increases a variable called ‘carspeed’ each time by 2. The car then goes faster and faster, until the user presses the down arrow key, this then reduces the cars speed gradually without stopping.

Keeping with the assignments aim, there are two different obstacles on the map. When these obstacles are hit, certain properties are changed, for example driving over the oil slick, causes the car to change colour.
