The Carbon Cycle Assignment.

A screenshot of the Carbon Cycle animation

Design Brief:

  1. To create an A2 sized poster of a multi-modal graphic which was then to be mounted on a foam board and displayed within the lab. A multi modal graphic is essentially a graphic that shows more than one piece of information.
  2. To take the above poster and turn it into an animation, lasting no less than 20 seconds using either Macromedia Flash or Macromedia Director.

Rationale:

When deciding upon the topic, inspiration came from experiences at high school, in particularly remembering a diagram of the Carbon Cycle and finding it difficult to understand due to the illustrations complex nature. Therefore the decision was made to recreate the Carbon Cycle graphic.

Initial thoughts were to use Adobe Illustrator due to vector graphics being scalable and the poster being on such a large scale and use Macromedia Director, due to the experience and knowledge of using the programme, for the animation. These choices led to creating the Carbon Cycle in a simplistic manner, which could be understood by all without any difficulty.
