Young Enterprise Submission - Havadoo

Design Brief:
Sponsored by the
Young Enterprise Group, the module was to promote team working skills and expand on existing knowledge in the production of multimedia. The brief was to work within groups of no more than 15 to set up a multimedia production company and create and sell a commercially viable product, of which ours was an event facilitating website named Havadoo.
Havadoo.com, was an e-business setup and run by a group of final year Multimedia students at the University of Central Lancashire. The developed site aimed to be an event facilitating application. It would allow its members to search, create and promote their personal events. Casual users would be able to browse the events that had been posted on the site through an advanced search facility and purchase tickets to their chosen event(s) online.
The initial concept was geared up for the local area of Preston, with the idea of expanding into larger areas by building a scalable database platform. We scouted venues who would be interested in signing up to our site so they could be involved in the development process. We aimed to develop a unique online community that would genuinely benefit our users, hoping that the site would not only perform as a way of generating extra revenue for local businesses, but also as a means of promoting events and occasions within the local community. Essentially the site was acting as a gateway between local people and local businesses.
The role Mark Webster held within the company was that of Marketing and Coding Director. Essentially an intermediary between the two teams; this role involved a large amount of communication, dispute resolution and understanding. Prior to this Mark felt that communication was one of his weaker skills that needed to be improved upon, however he is now confident of speaking in large groups and expressing points of view across without coming across as overbearing.
Rationale:
The final product was a little disappointing and was due to the late decision to choose ASP over PHP. However the group felt that in the four weeks since the decision, the groups skills and the sites potential was shown and that if the group had made the decision to use ASP from the start, the site would of been of a high standard and provided a valuable service to the people of Preston.
